Bingo!1998 Oil on linen 52.0" x 60.0" Private collection A Bingo! game purchased in good ol' Hillsboro, Texas, serves as the background for this piece. The diagonal writing and slightly out-of-register printing of the game cover adds zing and authenticity - just more wonderful graphics from the 40's or 50's. A multitude of penguins had arrived on my doorstep from various sources, so black and white predominates here, with red and yellow accents. I added in two old black and silver cameras and some dominos (to help vary the heights of Willie and Millie). I substituted "Lighten Up Enjoy Yourself" for the F-stop numbers around the Ricohflex lens, and added "Let's Play" in the diamond at center left. The 8 ball mirrors the eight penguins, who seem to be having a fine time. It's all fun and games! |
